Component 18: Replacement costs due to the consumption of non-renewable energy resources

Definition

The costs that need to be spent for the provision of power generation capacities from renewable resources in order to ensure that future generations can obtain the same goods and services that are currently produced using non-renewable energy sources (in prices of 2010).

Description and meaning of the component

The component is linked to the “management rules” for sustainable development by Herman Daly, according to which non-renewable resources are only to be used if an appropriate replacement capacity is built up during the same time.
